EQAO Grade 3: A Parent's Guide to the Ontario Test
5 min read
Every spring, Ontario Grade 3 students write the EQAO Primary Division assessment in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. It is done online at school and is based on the Ontario curriculum.
What it covers
- Reading: main idea, details, inferences and text features
- Writing: organizing ideas, short written answers, spelling and punctuation
- Math: number, algebra and coding, data, spatial sense and financial literacy
How results are reported
Each area is reported on four levels. Level 3 is the provincial standard. Results help schools see how students are doing; they are not a pass or fail for your child.
How to help at home
- Read together for 15 minutes a day and ask 'how do you know?'
- Practise explaining a math answer in one sentence
- Keep practice short and positive; stress does not help scores
