Illinois IAR Test Grade 3

Free IAR practice questions for Illinois mathematics and English language arts.

Illinois students in Grades 3–8 take the IAR each spring.

What is on the Illinois IAR in Grade 3?

The IAR is Illinois's state test in English language arts and mathematics for Grades 3–8, built on the Illinois Learning Standards. It is taken on a device and includes multiple-choice, multi-part and short written-response questions.

Math items ask students to reason and model a situation, not just compute, and ELA items ask for evidence from the text. Scores are reported on a scale from 300 to 500 in five achievement levels, so the goal is steady accuracy across question types rather than speed on one kind.

Mathematics

Concepts and procedures, reasoning and modeling, and solving multi-step and multi-part problems.

English language arts

Reading literature and information texts, vocabulary, language, and written expression with evidence.

Written expression

Planning and writing a supported response; full essay scoring is not simulated here.
