Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP)

Free M-STEP practice questions for Michigan mathematics and English language arts.

What is on the test?

The M-STEP is Michigan's statewide test in mathematics and English language arts for Grades 3–7. It is taken on a device and includes multiple choice, multi-select questions, short constructed responses and an essay in ELA.

Results come back as performance levels from 1 to 4 with subscores for claim areas, and the ELA test includes a listening component that plays an audio passage — that part cannot be practised here. Math items ask students to show a method, so writing out the steps is worth practising.

Mathematics

Concepts and procedures, problem solving and modeling, and presenting and interpreting results.

English language arts

Reading literature and information texts, research and inquiry, and writing and editing. The listening items are not simulated.

Constructed responses

Short written answers that explain a method or support a claim with evidence.
