New Jersey Student Learning Assessment — Adaptive (NJSLA-A)
Free NJSLA practice questions for New Jersey mathematics and English language arts.
New Jersey replaced its fixed-form state tests with an adaptive version, NJSLA-Adaptive (NJSLA-A), starting in spring 2026. The test adjusts question difficulty as your child answers, so no two students see the same set of questions.
English language arts is tested from Grade 3 to Grade 9 and mathematics from Grade 3 to Grade 8, with course-based practice in Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II for high-school students. Because the test is adaptive, doing well early matters: the first questions decide which difficulty band the test takes you into.
English language arts (Grades 3–9)
Reading literature and information texts, vocabulary in context, and writing with evidence.
Mathematics (Grades 3–8)
Number and operations, algebraic thinking, geometry and measurement, and data, with multi-step items.
Algebra I / Geometry / Algebra II
Course-based practice for eligible high-school students, based on course completion.
- Grade 3–9 ELA and Grade 3–8 Math chapters built from New Jersey standards
- Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II course practice
- Hints and worked explanations for every question
