New York Tests / Regents Test Grade 3

Free New York practice questions for the Grades 3–8 tests and for Regents courses.

New York students take state tests in Grades 3–8 and Regents exams in the high-school courses they complete.

What is on the New York Tests / Regents in Grade 3?

New York students take state tests in English language arts and mathematics in Grades 3–8. In high school, students take Regents examinations in the courses they complete — Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, English Language Arts and others — so a Regents follows the course, not a fixed grade.

The Grades 3–8 tests are mixed-format: multiple choice, short constructed responses and longer writing tasks. Regents exams are scored out of 100 and converted to a scale, and 65 is the usual passing mark. Practising written explanations matters on both, because part of the score comes from showing your work.

Grades 3–8 mathematics

Number and operations, algebraic thinking, geometry and measurement, and data, with constructed-response items.

Grades 3–8 English language arts

Reading fiction and information texts, writing evidence-based responses, and language editing.

Regents mathematics

Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II course exams: equations, functions, geometric proof and statistics.

Regents English language arts

Text analysis across several passages, a text-analysis response and an argument or essay.
