Texas STAAR Test Grade 5

Free STAAR practice questions for Texas mathematics and reading language arts.

Texas students take STAAR grade tests in Grades 3–8 and end-of-course exams in high school.

What is on the Texas STAAR in Grade 5?

STAAR is Texas's state test in mathematics and reading language arts. Students in Grades 3–8 take the grade test each spring, and high-school students take end-of-course exams for Algebra I, English I and English II — those course exams count toward the graduation plan, so they follow the course rather than a fixed grade.

The tests are taken on paper or a device, mostly multiple choice with a few constructed-response questions, and they follow the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Because the questions are TEKS-specific, practising the exact question types — including two-part and “select all that apply” items — helps more than general test-taking tips.

Mathematics (Grades 3–8)

Number and operations, algebraic reasoning, measurement and geometry, and data, with multi-step problems and constructed responses.

Reading language arts (Grades 3–8)

Reading fiction and information texts, vocabulary in context, and writing and editing sentences and paragraphs.

Algebra I EOC

Equations and inequalities, functions and graphs, and polynomials and modeling.

English I / English II EOC

Literary and informational reading with evidence, vocabulary, and a writing prompt.
