10 CCAT Practice Questions to Try at Home
8 min read
The fastest way to understand the CCAT is to try a few questions. Here are ten in the style of the real test, with answers and the reasoning behind each one. Try them with your child — talk about how you found each answer, because that conversation is the real practice.
Verbal battery
- 1. The words are: Jupiter, Mars, Earth. Which word belongs with this group? (Sun / Moon / Saturn / Star) — Saturn: all four are planets.
- 2. Puppy is to dog as kitten is to ___ (cat / lion / bird / rabbit) — cat: a kitten is a baby cat.
- 3. Which word does not belong: apple, banana, carrot, grape? — carrot: the others are fruits.
- 4. Finish the sentence: "A bird flies; a fish ___" — swims: the sentence pairs each animal with how it moves.
Quantitative battery
- 5. What comes next: 3, 6, 9, 12, ___? — 15: the pattern adds 3 each time.
- 6. What comes next: 20, 17, 14, 11, ___? — 8: the pattern subtracts 3 each time.
- 7. 4 + 5 = 3 + ___? — 6: both sides must equal 9.
- 8. Which is greater: 7 × 2 or 8 + 5? — 7 × 2 = 14 is greater than 13.
Non-verbal battery
Non-verbal questions use pictures, so describe them aloud when practising:
- 9. Figure classification: three shapes all have four sides. Which answer shape belongs? — the one with four sides, whatever its colour or size.
- 10. Figure series: a dot moves one corner clockwise in each picture. Where does it go next? — the next corner clockwise.
What to do with the results
If a battery felt hard, that is normal — it just means that question style is new. Inside Miso Tutor, each battery has 100 coached practice questions (300 in total) that start gently and build up, with explanations for every answer.
